# Why did this import stop?

> What the Why? check on an import tells you, what each answer means, and what to do next.

*This article is being updated.*

When an import stops partway, its row under **Settings → Data → Imports** reads **Commit failed after** a number of **rows**, with a **Why?** link beside it. Select **Why?** to see what stopped it and what to do. The answer names the import by its file, or by the kind of records it was bringing in.

Stopped imports also show under **Check my account** when you open **Help** on Settings → Data, newest first.

For how an import works from start to finish, see **Importing your data**.

## When the import stopped

Prevarro checks for these causes in order and tells you the first one it finds.

### The price book is inactive

A price book item import writes into one price book. If that price book is no longer active, the import stopped and can't be retried while the price book stays inactive. A price book becomes inactive when it's deleted.

1. Select **Open the import**.
2. If the import wrote some rows, choose **Revert**. Revert deletes the rows it created that nothing has since edited or used. The rows it updated keep their changes.
3. To bring the items in, start a new import and choose a different **Price book** at the **Map** step.

### The person who approved it has left

The person who committed the import is no longer active in your business, so the import can't go on under their approval.

Select **Retry the import**. Retry picks up where it stopped, with you as its approver. If it stopped before writing any rows, Retry starts it again.

### It stopped for another reason

The answer says how far the import got. Select **Retry the import**. Retry picks up where it stopped, and rows already written stay as they are. If it stopped before writing any rows, Retry starts it again.

If you'd rather undo what it wrote, choose **Revert** on its row instead.

## Cancelled by the Xero relink

Records brought in from Xero belong to the Xero organisation your business is connected to. If your business connects Prevarro to a different Xero organisation, any import from Xero that hadn't finished is cancelled.

- If it hadn't written any rows, its row reads **Cancelled by the Xero relink**. There's nothing to retry or revert.
- If it had written some rows, its row reads **Commit failed after** a number of rows, and only **Revert** is offered. It can't be retried.

## When the import hasn't stopped

If an import has moved on since you opened the list, **Why?** tells you where it stands now. None of these needs a fix.

- **It hasn't been committed yet.** The import was uploaded but never committed. Choose **Resume** on its row to carry on to **Preview** and **Commit**.
- **It's still running.** The answer shows how many rows are done so far. Check back once it finishes.
- **It finished.** The answer lists how many rows were created, updated and skipped. Rows with errors weren't imported. Fix them in your file and import them separately.
- **It's being reverted.** Check back once the revert finishes.
- **It was reverted.** The rows it created were deleted, and the rows it updated keep their changes.
- **It was reverted, except some rows.** Rows that had been edited, that other records use, or that an earlier pass of the revert kept are still there. The import reads **Partially reverted**. Choose **View retained rows** to see which ones.

## If the check can't answer

- **You can't see this record** means the import brought in a kind of record your role can't add, so you can't see it.
- **We couldn't run the check.** means Prevarro couldn't read the import just then. Choose **Try again**.
